It's a boy....for sure!

We had to get Jingles out again for some more sub q fluids and to check his body condition and make sure he was not too thin or we would have to wake and warm him so he could eat and fatten up a little.

He started out pretty calm and sleepy, but by the end of it he was REALLY pissed off! Even worse than the first time we did it! Who could blame him! We weren't just giving him fluids.....

....we were taking naked pictures of him to paste all over the Internet for everyone to see!! LOL! While getting a look at his belly area to make sure he wasn't too thin, we also got proof positive that he was, in fact, a he!

And now that he feels violated and pissed, he kicked and screamed his way back into his cage and is now peacefully sleeping in the crevice of his blankets!

Checking in on Jingles.

Jingles has been tucked away sleeping for a week since Laurie and I gave him some sub q fluids last week. It was time to take him out and get a look at him......

....and try giving him some more fluids.

.....and back to bed he went. He only drank a little water. Once he figured out every time he opened his mouth I would drop some in there, he just stopped opening it! Smart little guy!!

I think he's getting used to me. Not as stressed by my presence, but just doesn't like being handled. So once again, he's really going to be pissed off if we have to give him some more sub q fluids! Ha ha!

Business as usual.

Same thing different day...all the kids are doing their usual...but they are so cute I can't help taking yet MORE pictures! The big kids out back wouldn't come out, but of course the little kids did!

Once again anxiously awaiting my arrival. (Or I should say, the arrival of their FOOD!)

Button...have I mentioned how DAMN CUTE she is! She is perfectly round and puffy. Laurie said it well...she's like on of those little brushkins!

Deer rescue

I have to give Kudos to the fire department I work for. They went all out on Monday to rescue a deer that fell through the ice. 3 hours and a lot of manpower later, she was brought to shore. Here are some pics, compliments of one of my fellow dispatchers, Scott who watched most of the ordeal before coming in for his shift.

The deer was way out there, but here you can see where she was through the ice....

Then after they managed to drag her out of the water....

I wish I could report a happier outcome, but the poor thing had to be euthanized due to a broken leg and possibly broken hip. The environmental police were on scene to evaluate her. Chances are, after such a long struggle and the stress, she wouldn't have made it anyway. Deer are very prone to capture myopathy and may die suddenly or up to a month after capture, there is no cure. After this long ordeal, her chances were probably slim.

The one good thing that came out of this...it was a great training exercise for the fire department for a time when they may have to drag a human being out of the freezing water.
