Red, Belle & some silly pics.

Red is doing great...enjoying her star treatment at the Ritz!! Breakfast in bed and all! The swelling is going down, her foot is getting better and I'll probably send her out soon. Since she's not anxious to leave and I'm in no hurry to boot her I'll just give it some time for the swelling to go down more and let it heal a little longer so there is less chance of her re-injuring it too quickly.

Belle is taking good care of her babies. She pops out during the day to eat so she can stay with them at night when all the other coonies are out and about. I got a brief glimpse of her when she popped her head out today to check me out when I was putting the coon cam back at the feeding station. She was pretty quick though and all I got was part of her head before she ducked right back inside to her babies.

The rest of the gang was just enjoying the nice weather (FINALLY!!). Just hanging out making silly faces!

Caught in the act!

Bella is growing like a weed still. She's up to 140 grams and doing great! Red is going to be heading back out soon too. The swelling is down in her foot and she's using it now. One more check with the vet and then I think she'll be free to go.

When I got the coon cam today to download the pics I couldn't figure out why there was dirt all over the camera and tripod. Someone had to be fiddling with it! I didn't put it on a tree because I knew the coonies would be ALL over it so I use a tripod that I figured would be to difficult to climb. Sure enough I discovered the culprit!! Curiosity finally got the better of someone who found a way to climb the tripod while another looked on in amusement!

It's good to know the tripod and camera can withstand a raccoon climbing all over it! Luckily I had anchored it with big, heavy bricks when I put it out there! Crazy coon! I hope it doesn't become a habit! haha

Hi from the kids!

Well the kids came out to visit today and Whitey decided to start of by pointing out what a nice penis he has! haha

Screech was not in a picture mood! Get that camera outta my face you damn paparazzi!

On the other hand, go ahead and take my picture....here, get my good side!

Even Popeye and Foxy poked their heads out to say hi....barely!

Daisy as usual wanted all the attention.

Whitey finally finished playing with himself long enough for a respectable picture.

Buddy gives us a handsome close up.

A smile for the camera!

Well here she is with her beautiful new smile! It will probably be a permanent smile by the looks of it.Wow! What a difference a couple of days makes!

Dandy is doing great! What a trooper. The nose looks great, no gunk caking it up, and she is breathing almost normally out of it. I started sneaking her antibiotics into some raw egg so she's a happy girl getting treats like that. She is being a wonderful patient and she is definitely grateful to be feeling so much better.

Tomorrow I'll be adding another patient to the clan. The squirrel I brought to Tufts last week is recovering well and is ready to come here to finish his rehabilitation. Some time in the big cage where he can climb on trees and run around will help get his injured leg back in shape so he can be released eventually. Lucky Cutter (I can officially name him now!) He's going to get a second chance ....out of the dangers of city life and into the good country life! Boy is he gonna love it here! Lots of pretty young ladies out there for him to meet.

Raccoons & Squirrels & Sarge! Oh my!!

I haven't seen Sarge since the end of December and I was so excited to see him last night! He had a couple battle scars on his muzzle, but nothing major and he looked really good. He was a little skittish, but did come over and say hi briefly before snatching a treat and running off with it! He was one of my "mamma's boys" from this past summer. Goofball was the other mamma's boy and I haven't had any confirmed sightings of him in a long time either, not since the end of November. I hope he is OK. This is Sarge on the right, Goofball on the left... (Goof is also the baby holding the bottle on a blue fleece in the pics in the right margin,)

And another of Sarge....such a handsome boy!! It's amazing how different they look as time goes by.

Here one of the gang says "Cheese!" for the camera before heading home to bed.

I ran into Sarge around Midnight. I ended up with an adult squirrel that had been hit by a car while working, and by the time I got him home and stabilized it was about Midnight and decided since I was up.....I might as well check it out. I'm so glad I did or I wouldn't have run into Sarge. So I have a poor injured squirrel to thank for that.

I brought the squirrel to Tufts Wildlife center in Groton this morning since he did well overnight and seemed stable. He's in good hands, getting x-rays and pain meds and treatment. They will let me know tomorrow if he is in any condition for rehabilitation or if he has to be euthanized due to head trauma and a shoulder injury. I'll take him back to recover here should his injuries be such that he will be releasable eventually. Lets all give lots of good thought out to him and hope for the best!

Rare sighting!

I caught a rare sighting on my coon cam the other day! Imagine my surprise when I downloaded these pics and saw it! This is the endangered Wildlife Rehabilitator! haha Laurie and Lisa decided to have some fun with me one day while they were down taking care of the overwintering kids! Thanks for the laugh you guys!

Laurie and I, along with a fellow friend and rehabber Mary are going to the NWRA Wildlife Symposium this week. Lisa is going to babysit the kids while we are gone! Thanks so much Lisa...it's good to know they'll be in good hands.

It's not easy to get away as a rehabber because it's not easy to find someone to take on the babysitting task... so this is a special treat for Laurie, Mary and myself. But were going to be nervous wrecks being away from the kids for so long, so lots of updates Lisa...we'll probably use up our cell phone minutes calling to check on them!

Paleface is still out in the den box doing well!

I stand corrected!

It takes more than a bunch of snow to keep these guys in! Here they are the night after the storm. That is Sarge with his butt to us and Smokey on the right. I'm not sure about on the left...I didn't get a tail shot, but my guess would be Dandy or Red...one of them is usually with Smokey. I can't tell all of them by their tails, but Sarge and Smokey have unique enough tails for me to identify in the less than professional pics from this camera.

I haven't seen Sarge in a while, so this is a great sighting!!
