A little winter action.

Not much has been going on around here at all, and to be honest, that's a good thing! It has been extremely cold though! Enough so that the pond was frozen enough for me to venture out there and poke around. After a fairly long absence, it's pretty obvious beavers have returned to the pond! Don't let the pictures fool you.....these trees are huge! I think these are the teeth sharpening trees. All that was left of the little trees were of course stumps and the rest dragged off for home improvements.

Despite the pond being frozen over, the beavers managed some strategically placed  breathing holes. These 2 were in the middle of the pond.

There were several others along the shoreline, generally close to the areas where the trees were being chewed and where the lodge appears to be.

I'm not the only one taking advantage of a frozen pond making travel easier! Lots of coyote prints as usual, and I came across these perfectly preserved prints in the ice. You'll never guess what made these, LOL.

The day after our first snow storm we had a little visitor! Part of the old big pen has a covered section and I'm guessing someone got caught out too late during our very first storm. This was a couple days before the blizzard was due to hit. I set up a little box up there just in case the little fella was in need of an emergency shelter, but he was gone the next day and I did find some prints heading off.

Then the blizzard hit!! Over 34 inches for me here! Everything was buried and if not for 2 of the dogs to break trails, it would have stayed that way!

About a week after that, another foot and a half dumped here! My snowblower is broken, then my Dad's and brothers broke, on top of the regular plow not being able to get down my very long driveway into the woods! After being plowed in for 2 days, had to scramble for a stronger plow to get me out! It was frustrating enough just trying to dig my own way out of here. It's difficult to impossible getting out to the pens!!
But of course, I come across a raccoon at work that needs help! Then 2 possums at a loss where to go with almost 4 feet of snow. So, a little more help from the dogs and I make my way out there to dig out a pen for the raccoon, and Laurie sets up the possums at her place.

Now we are expecting another 18 inches or so on top of this. NOT GOOD! I sure hope the gang is safely hunkered down own there.
