A warm weeked...just a tease!!!

This past weekend was a balmy 40 degrees and sunny! It was great! Most of the snow in the pens and in the woods was melted. Even some of the overwinters ventured out to enjoy some nice warm sunshine.

It was a good time for Dad to help me get a tree for the second squirrel pen. I found a big, dead, hollow tree near the downtown pen. I checked it out and upon discovering nothing was already living in it, set my sights on it!

After a good workout sawing forever....Dad finally managed to get it down! It's been cut into 2 pieces to fit in the pen and I'll drag them up there eventually! I just wanted to make sure I got it down before something else moved into it....then I'd have to leave it there of course!

Unfortunately our lovely weekend weather was short lived! Sunday night we were hit with another snow storm....worse this time. Not the light fluffy snow like the last one. This was wet, heavy snow and it was topped off with a finishing glaze of frozen ice that has a lot of trees bent over to the ground with the weight of it. Stay tuned for those pics!

A close call!

This huge dead tree finally fell near down near the release pen, and it was a VERY close call! It skimmed down the side of the cage, ripping the tarp but luckily no damage to the cage. Good thing too....the gang was in there at the time! You can imagine my surprise when I came home to find that!!!

Had to wait until today to clear it. Dad was going to come Tuesday, but I didn't want to give the kids a heart attack with the chainsaw running right next to them! So today it was and now we have some big log pieces to use for raccoon amusement/human resting seats in the pens.

Mom even ventured into "the wild" looking for us and checking out our little project for the day. Had to talk her in by cell phone since she's never been past the backyard and had no idea where the path through the woods to the pen was.

While we were working we saw a sight you don't usually see around here! A blimp out for a spin flew over the area.

Went over to Mary's to take care of the gang and everyone is doing great and making a HUGE mess! They seem to like pooping in all the high places....on the shelves and boards up in the 10ft. section of course. That was a lot of fun to clean!!
A word to the wise, don't stand below a bunch of coonies that like to poop and pee in high places....you WILL get hit! It wasn't pretty when I left covered in it!!
