Raccoon release....round 2!

Fitchy, Gimpy, and Mia, Letty, Vince and Han of the Fast Five are on their big journey at last! It was a perfect, sunny, cool afternoon. Some final touches on the den boxes and it was time for release. They, along with a group of Laurie's, are obviously loving every minute of it!

The gang patiently awaits.......
The den boxes are all secured and ready......
Finally, the big moment!! Nothing but fun now.

Although the release site is near a reservoir, they managed to find their own source of water right near by. We noticed they became very interested in the base of a tree. They managed to find a little hole and dug it out even more. I was initially thinking they were having fun with a chippy hole, but when we finally went over to check it out, we discovered there was an underground well of water in there! Resourceful little buggers!

At last darkness had fallen. The gang had managed to find water and were familiar with where the feeders and the den boxes were, and they were romping further out investigating their new stomping grounds. Laurie and I quietly snuck out of there. Good luck gang!
This afternoon we hope to get the rest of my gang released. Although the weather was supposed to remain dry and cool, we woke up this morning to discover it was raining.....annoying to say the least. We like to release them when we know they will have at least 2 or 3 days of dry weather. Hopefully it clears up, because The Dighton 4, The Little Rascals, Mason, Cinder, Bossy, Champ, Milly, and Fluff are ready to go!
