An important bill to be aware of!

H.R. 615 This bill could save the life of your pet's and wildlife!

It's purpose is to amend the Federal Hazardous Substances Act to require engine coolant and antifreeze to contain a bittering agent so as to render it unpalatable.

The main ingredient, ethylene glycol, is sweet tasting and is attractive to animals. It only takes a small amount (1-2 teaspoons for cats, 3 tablespoons for a med dog for example) to poison and kill anything that ingests it. Read more about Antifreeze poisoning and it's affects.

  1. Thanks Deanne! I lost my Jake to anti-freeze poisoning and I hadn't any idea of where he could have picked it up. He was always on a leash when I walked him and was big couch potato. He was rarely outside unsupervised. It must've been one of those times when I had my head turned or was busy talking to a neighbor while out on our walk. It can happen very quickly. He became gravely ill and suffered a great deal before he had to be euthanized. It took less than 24 hours for his system to start shutting down and for the vet to figure out that it was antifreeze poisoning. I can't impress how important this bill is. Thank you again for the post!

  2. This would also protect humans from poisoning. It looks and tastes just like Gatorade. Keep me informed!

  3. Robin how horrible for you and Jake...I'm so sorry! This should be a no brainer...even the color makes it that much more attractive to kids! It looks like Gatorade too! The only interference will be politicians and money....lets hope for once they open their eyes and do the right thing for children and animals alike...and consider the cost to them if they don't pass it, not any monetary cost to make the changes!
